The Gurkhas are under threat in proposed cuts to the British Army

Speaking out against the proposed cuts to the Armed Forces, Peter Carroll said "The Armed Forces are being terribly over stretched. The idea of cuts is totally inappropriate. The Army is having trouble recruiting and the Gurkhas are playing a vital role in today's Army."

The news comes of these possible cuts after Peter led a strong campaign to win citizenship rights for the Gurkhas earlier this year.

"They have a fantastic reputation stretching back centuries. They have a special place in the hearts and minds of the British people. I will be campaigning against any cuts in the Gurkhas and I urge all local people to support this campaign."

The final decision on the restructure is to be made by Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon and the prime minister after a recommendation by senior defence figures.
