Folkestone Multi-Cultural Festival plans to be launched on Saturday

2.57.45pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 11th May 2009

Programme details of this year's Folkestone Multi-Cultural Festival are to be unveiled during an entertainment event in the Plaza at the Bouverie Place Shopping Centre this Saturday (May 16), 12am - 2pm. Music will be provided by the Whitstable Samba Band which will be one of the performers at the four-day fun-for-everyone festival, June 11-14, the third to be organised by Folkestone Town Centre Management.

Last year's festival events attracted tens of thousands of visitors and residents and the 2009 programme promises to be even bigger and better, according to organiser Barbara Witham. The line-up of performers will represent the many different cultures which contribute to the life and times of Folkestone, and will include musicians, dancers, drummers, circus artists and craftsmen.

"As usual, the emphasis will be on family fun and many events - most of which will be free - will focus on children's activities, including an exciting programme of activity workshops at the Leas Cliff Hall which five hundred children from schools across Shepway are expected to attend. An old-time music hall will be among events which will appeal to the older generation.

"We are grateful to Shepway District Council, Folkestone Town Council and other supporters for financial assistance to enable us to present a bumper festival, and look forward to welcoming hosts of adults and children on Saturday to give it a great send-off", said Mrs Witham.

Programmes will be available at Saturday's event and also at shops, public libraries, tourist information points and other outlets.
