Hythe Lib Dems have invoked little used council rules to stop the Council's final planning decision on the Hythe Imperial development being made in a sub-committee of the council. Cllr Darren Briddock has used a veto to force the final council decision to be made at the next meeting of Hythe Town Council instead of in a planning sub committee.
"A planning application of this size must be decided by the full council at a time that the public can be available to make representations, deciding this in a small committee at 9.30 on a Tuesday morning is not good enough."
This comes hot on the heels of a controversial council meeting when Cllr Briddock was not allowed to ask a question on a planning application that had been decided by the committee. He commented:
"By using this veto we can ensure that the application gets the scrutiny it deserves and the public have the maximum opportunity to have their opinions heard."
The final decision of the town council will now be made at the next full council meeting on the 24th September.
