Gary, a long time Lib-Dem voter, moved to Folkestone in 2005 after his daughter was born and joined the Lib-Dems in 2006.
Gary was elected to Folkestone Town Council in 2007 and narrowly missed out on being elected to Shepway District Council (by 20 votes). In 2011, having moved to Sandgate, he was elected to Sandgate Parish Council. In 2019, he was elected to Folkestone and Hythe District Council.
Gary has fulfilled various roles during his time as a Cllr, acting as Sandgate's Chair and Folkestone's Vice-Chair of Planning, Folkestone's Vice Chair of Community Services and Folkestone's Chair of the Grievance Panel.
